You would be surprised how much hobbies can do for us! The daily grind, the 9-5 whatever you work can make you feel like you’re coming home to eat, sleep and then start it all over again. Not the ideal way to live... most people don’t think there is anything they can do to change this feeling and just try to either get used to it or give up entirely. A common misconception is that you have to have a job you love with perfect hours and amazing co workers with a great pay to feel fulfilled in your work. Although that would be nice and is entirely possible, the fear of letting go of a job you hate and trying to find a job you love is difficult.
An amazing way to combat this problem (if you don’t fancy leaving your job) is to find yourself a hobby. Whether it’s something you do by yourself, with your s/o or friends, hobbies are crucial for work-life balance and satisfaction. Before you say you don’t have enough time, I hear you, and I’m here to say there is always time. Write down a list of all of the things you need to get done and allocate each thing to someone else, or give it a specific time slot. You’d be surprised how many hours in the day there actually are.
Side note: I worked 2 jobs whilst at uni, member of 3 societies and still made time for date nights
So here’s a little exercise:
how many hours a week can I spare for a hobby?
what hobbies do I have now?
what hobbies did I have in the past?
what kind of hobby am I looking for now (physical/creative/etc)?
what specific hobbies do I want to take part in?
can I make time for any of these hobbies?
Keep asking yourself some more questions and have a look for some things you might want in your life.
good luck, happy hunting :)
