With busy lives, it's easy to let self-care take a backseat to other things like responsibility and workload. I explored being busy and burnout as a result more in my last blog so check it out if you're interested.
Self-care is incredibly important for health, well-being and happiness. You may be feeling like you don't take care of yourself enough but don't know where to start. Or maybe you think you take care of yourself enough but you're still not happy.
Here is a [bit more lengthy] exercise to complete so you can figure out what areas of your self-care you're neglecting so you can make an action plan!
These questions will deepen your understanding of how good you are to yourself.
For a better experience, choose whether you would prefer a numerical value assigned to each answer or a word. Whichever way you learn best! [Neither one is better than the other]
You're gonna answer these questions either 0=No 1=Sometimes/mostly 2=Yes
But first, predict what you think your score will be
I will answer Yes to [your prediction] /20
Or I will have a score of [your prediction] /40
Let's Go!
Are you up to date with all of your health checks? [doctor's, dentist, optician]
Are you happy with your fitness?
Do you eat healthily most of the time?
Do you get lots of sleep?
Do you take regular breaks and holidays from work?
Are you happy with your current style?
Do you take time to relax? [meditate, journal, read]
Do you prioritise your time well?
Do you say 'no' when you need to?
Is your home generally clean?
Do you enjoy being home?
Do you know when you're stressed and need a break?
Do you have lots of support networks in your life?
Do you spend time with people who inspire you?
Do you trust your body and intuition when looking after yourself?
Do you have a mentor who supports you in life?
Have you forgiven yourself for past mistakes?
Have you let go of any negative feelings associated with particular people?
Do you have things to look forward to?
Do you have lots of things that are important to you in your life?
What did you get?
Now compare your actual score to your predicted score. Have you learned anything?
You now should have a better idea of what you need to focus on to improve your self-care.
So, how do I decide which one to work on?
Pick on that meets these criteria:
- One of the lowest on the list [priority]
- Immediate action can be taken [quick results]
- You believe it will improve your well-being [more likely to succeed]
Hope you enjoyed this exercise and learned something from this. This is just a snippet of the kinds of things we will explore in sessions together! So hit me up if you need any help :)
See you soon!
