In life we are often focused on different aspects of our journey.
-Pros and cons
-Bumps or hurdles
-How long it will take to do this
-How much it will cost to do that
This is often seen as the sensible or grown up way of looking at things...
The attitude is one of the most common reasons why a lot of us fail to get or even see what we really want. We all know what we should do.
You may be thinking, if we don't want to do what we are doing it, why does it make us feel good?
Well, it's safe, free from judgement, you fit in, you feel comfortable and there's no fear. Which is all well and good, but for some it just isn't enough.
Let me give you a personal example.
I left University, I should have gotten a full time job and be on my way to getting a house, marriage, kids etc. But I knew that wasn't what I really wanted. I set myself back a bit on getting the house and starting that part of my life, because I didn't want to be stuck in a job that I hated working crazy hours for nowhere near enough money. I delayed getting a house, put some money into my coaching business and I've never been happier.
I'm so glad I went for this. Now I can help people like myself who were struggling, confused, stressed out like I was. Everyone gets worried about careers and the future, but it shouldn't be so stressful, it should be fun! Exciting!
Remember when you were a kid and you would say things like 'I wanna be this'
That's what you wanted.
You never would've said 'but there's a lot of training involved and it's super expensive and the pay isn't great, and it's gonna take me longer to buy a house which means I will have to live with my parents for a few extra years while I study'
If you did I would be very surprised.
We are SO focused on how difficult it's going to be to get somewhere that a pipe dream stays a pipe dream.
You have SO MUCH POTENTIAL that you probably aren't optimising.
If you have a dream, a career whatever it is, I urge you to change your mindset about it. Use the following questions.
How will I feel when I get it?
What will I do after I get there?
How will it feel if I don't even try?
Does this line up with my personal values?
How will it benefit me?
How will it benefit the people I love?
How will it benefit the people I will be with?
How will this change other aspects of my life?
How long have I wanted this?
What is my target?
How will I know I am there?
Use questions like this, or statements like
I will feel this when I get there
It will make me so X when I do it
I can't wait to get to XYZ
I can use this person and have this and that
It is one of the best ways to feel motivated. We all know there will be downsides, difficulties, roadblocks. It's the same for anything. So why not put up with roadblocks to work towards something you truly love and are passionate about?
Makes a lot more sense right?
Hopefully this made sense and left you feeling a lot more empowered. Our thoughts are a powerful thing and they can help us do a LOT more than we think we can. Confidence can do multitudes for our success, but fear of judgement can do the opposite.
So GO FOR IT!
